All Aboard! Keys to Successful On-Boarding

In the past, on-boarding a new employee was a slow process, which often took several months. This was, of course, perfectly acceptable because employees and companies were loyal to each other and the plan was a long-term partnership. In today’s workplace, companies don’t have that luxury anymore. Employees are brought in to fill a need and must to get up to speed quickly, as they may not be working there for more than a few months or a couple years.

Regardless of your industry, the goal of employee on-boarding is to integrate new hires into the company, make them feel welcome, and show them they made the right choice in coming to work for you. You’ll need to introduce them to your company – who you are and what you do, as well as your mission, vision, and values – to ensure everyone is on the same page.

On-boarding also needs to help new employees see the big picture and where they fit into the puzzle, to help them understand their job responsibilities. You also need to cover the legal aspects of onboarding: company policies and procedures, codes, restrictions, and guidelines. And all of this should be done in a way that you create a great first impression.

So you need a good solution for on-boarding your new hires? In today’s market, eTraining is your most convenient and cost effective solution. Let’s take a look at some reasons why:

  • eTraining helps formalize the onboarding process, and keeps it consistent and repeatable.

  • Often in “regular” trainings, employees have to wait until the training person is available, which isn’t always convenient. With eTraining, it’s right there ready to go when you need it.

  • eTraining is a one-time cost for setup, with a minimal monthly maintenance fee. You don’t need to hire a new person for tens of thousands of dollars per year, or bring in an overpriced team of specialists year after year.

  • eTraining runs through a learning management system, so it’s trackable. You can monitor progress of each employee and see who’s actually learning and who’s just clicking through slides.

  • eTraining doesn’t require travel costs. The same program can be accessed by multiple people in different time zones all over the world.

  • eTraining can be referred back to as needed. If an employee forgets something, or if they’re not following the process you’ve outlined, you can simply have them retake the course.

There is no replacement for face-to-face connections, but eTraining can provide a great base to get your new hires off on the right foot. We can help! www.HCeTrainings.com
